Celebrity Birthdays This Week

Answer to Trivia

Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, but is best known today by his shortened name. Walt Disney was the "father" of Mickey Mouse, brought to life various successful animated features and numerous amusement parks among many other accomplishments.

However, there is one collaboration between his company and the Alien franchise that you might not be too familiar with. During the 1980s, Disney spent time and resources developing an amusement ride based on Ridley Scott's horror films but ultimately went a different direction when the conceptualized ride was deemed too dark and scary for kids. Go figure.

This development wasn't all for naught though, during the 1990s, Disney World featured an amusement called ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter at Tomorrowland. This amusement traces many of its roots to the failed Alien ride. It was closed permanently on October 12, 2003, allegedly for being too intense for younger riders.

Now, the fun part. In this week's Alien: Covenant, the date of the mission listed at the beginning of the film is December 5, which as you recall from above was Walt Disney's birthday. Alien: Covenant is now available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD.
